Russian Coins
The largest country in the world by area, Russia has played a significant role in modern politics. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 it has been known officially as the Russian Federation, and operates as a federal semi-presidential republic.
The Russian rouble is the second oldest national currency; second only to the Pound Sterling. It has been in use since the 1200s in varying forms. Older gold coins produced in the time of the Russian Empire feature the Tsar of the time, more recent coins are commemorative in nature and celebrate the recent history of Russia.
