A rare Russian 5 Rouble Gold coin, dated 1884, and from the reign of 'Aleksandr' the Third (Alexander III). The Cyrillic letters '???' (which we have represented through their similarity to the English letters 'CNB') show that this coin was minted at the Saint Petersburg Mint.
Obverse.
The text reads '5 ?????? 1884 ?.?.?.' (5 Roubles 1884 Saint Petersburg Mint).
Around: '1 ???????? 39 ????? ??????? ?????? ' (1 Zolotnik of 39 parts pure gold).
Reverse.
The imperial, double-headed eagle of Russia. This design features a two-headed eagle clutching an orb and sceptre, with a crown above both heads. At the centre of the eagle is the national shield of Russia showing Saint George the Victorious on horseback, with various other shields within the eagle's wings.
