Argor-Heraeus is one of the largest refiners of Swiss gold bars, based in Mendrisio in the Swiss canton of Ticino. Their gold bars have held LBMA Good Delivery accreditation since 1961 and the company is one of only five refineries worldwide that act as LBMA Good Delivery Referees, meaning they help oversee the quality standards of other refiners around the world. Argor-Heraeus is part of the Heraeus Precious Metals group, with operations in over 40 countries, and produces around 350 to 400 tonnes of gold a year.

What is the Difference Between Heraeus and Argor-Heraeus?

In 2017, Argor became a subsidiary of Heraeus Precious Metals. The company continues to produce gold bars under both the Heraeus and Argor-Heraeus brands, but all manufacturing is now carried out by the Argor-Heraeus subsidiary. Each Argor-Heraeus gold bar is marked with the Argor-Heraeus SA logo in a circle surrounding the letters AH, with 'Switzerland' below and 'AH Melter Assayer' in a rectangle. Heraeus-branded bars are marked with 'Heraeus Feingold' and 'Heraeus Edelmetalle Hanau'.

Argor-Heraeus MultiDisc Gold Bars

The Argor-Heraeus MultiDisc is a credit-card-sized pack containing multiple individual gold discs, each separable from the surrounding card. The format makes it easy to take partial profits or pass small amounts of gold on as gifts, without having to liquidate a larger bar. Each disc carries its own purity and weight stamp and the whole pack is supplied with a matching certificate.

Argor-Heraeus Multicard Gold Bars

The Argor-Heraeus Multicard contains a series of small minted gold bars set into a single tamper-evident assay card. Like the MultiDisc, the format is designed to give investors flexibility - the individual bars can be separated as needed while the rest of the pack stays sealed. Each Multicard is supplied with a serial number and a matching certificate of authenticity.

Argor-Heraeus CombiBar Gold Bars

The Argor-Heraeus CombiBar is a single minted gold bar pre-scored into smaller individual bars of typically 1 gram each. The whole bar can be held as one piece, or snapped apart by hand to create smaller, more easily traded units - useful for investors who want the flexibility to sell small portions of their holding without breaking up a large bar.

Argor-Heraeus Gold Bar Serial Numbers

Every new Argor-Heraeus gold bar is stamped with a unique serial number, and is supplied with a matching certificate of authenticity inside a sealed assay card. The serial number is intended as a record-keeping aid, not a verification tool - a number alone cannot confirm a gold bar is genuine, so we always recommend buying only from reputable bullion dealers that guarantee authenticity. The resale value of an Argor-Heraeus gold bar is not affected by removing it from the assay card, although bars are easier to sell when the packaging is intact. When selling, the buyer will normally need to remove the bar to test purity using an XRF analysis device. The price you receive is determined by the weight of the bar and the current spot price of gold.
