Edward VII Half Sovereign

The Edward VII Half Sovereign was used as circulating currency for the British Empire, and was classed as half a pound coin. As the name would suggest it contains half the gold content of the standard Sovereign, and is struck in 22 carat gold per the tradition of this series.

Edward VII Half Sovereigns were struck in London, as well as three Australian mints - Perth, Sydney and Melbourne. Coins produced at the latter three mints will feature a 'P', 'S', or 'M' mint mark to denote which mint it was struck at. The short period of Edward VII's reign still saw millions of Half Sovereigns produced, particularly in London, while Australian examples are a little rarer. Depending on condition and minting location these coins will typically still sell close to bullion prices.
