Gold Double Eagle $20
Since the $20 gold piece has twice the value of the $10 eagle, these coins were designated "Double Eagles".
The first double eagle was minted in 1849, coinciding with the California Gold Rush. Regular production began in the following year, 1850, and continued until 1933.
There are two basic designs of Double Eagle: the Liberty head dating from 1866 and Saint Gaudens, named after its designer Augustus Saint-Gauden, from 1907.
