This coin was struck to celebrate the London Olympic Handover Ceremony in 2008. It features the Olympic flag being passed between hands and has the inscription BEIJING 2008 LONDON 2012 in reference to most recent Olympic host city and the next.
The Two Pound Gold Coin - sometimes referred to as the Double Sovereign - contains 14.63 grams of gold (twice the weight of a Sovereign).
The obverse (front) of the coin bears the fourth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley, while the reverse design was a collaborative effort from the Royal Mint's engraving team. The edge of the coin reads "I CALL UPON THE YOUTH OF THE WORLD".
