Description

This coin features the 5th portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark. Piedfort coins are twice the thickness of standard coins. Only 3,500 coins issued by the Royal Mint.

This is the 2017 gold Proof Piedfort Sovereign. This coin was designed to mirror the 1817 Sovereign - the first of what we know as a British Sovereign coin - and commemorate the 200th anniversary of the coin's creation by Italian sculptor Benedetto Pistrucci.

This proof has been struck using specially selected blanks and highly polished dies. During striking, the coinage dies exert enormous pressure on the coin blank, with at least two separate blows (or strikes), ensuring that the impression has extra clarity.

This 2017 Proof Piedfort Sovereign coin is provided in a Royal Mint case, complete with certificate of authenticity.
