Gold Sovereign). The coin is 22-carat gold.

This 2007 Proof gold £2 coin was one of 1000 produced to mark the 200th anniversary of the Abolition of the Slave Trade within the British Empire, back in 1807.

The obverse (front) of the coin bears the Ian Rank-Broadley (IRB) portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The coin reads ELIZABETH II D G REG FID DEF and TWO POUNDS.

The reverse of the coin bears the words AN ACT FOR THE ABOLITION OF THE SLAVE TRADE and the year 2007. The 0 in 1807 is depicted as part of a sequence of chain links, but the nought is broken to signify that slave trading is finished. The initials DG appear refer to artist David Gentleman.

The edge of the coin also has an inscribed message, reading: 'AM I NOT A MAN, AND A BROTHER'.

You can also view the other Two Pound gold coin released in 2007 - the Act of Union proof gold coin. This marked 300 years of unity between England and Scotland.
