Metalor Gold Bars

Metalor is a Swiss precious metals refiner founded in 1852 in Le Locle, Switzerland. The company began life as a smelter and watch case manufacturer for the Swiss watch industry, before expanding into precious metals refining in the early 20th century. In 1934 Metalor became the first Swiss refinery to be accredited as an LBMA Good Delivery provider, and today is one of only five LBMA Good Delivery Referees worldwide - the small group of refineries responsible for monitoring the quality standards of other gold refiners. Metalor is now headquartered in Marin, in the Swiss canton of Neuchâtel, and operates four LBMA-accredited refineries in Switzerland, the USA, Hong Kong and Singapore. The company has been part of the Japanese precious metals group Tanaka Kikinzoku since 2016. Their long history, global production footprint and senior LBMA role make Metalor one of the most respected gold bar brands available to investors.

VAT on Metalor Gold Bars

Metalor gold bars are classed as investment gold and are exempt from VAT. This applies to all investment-grade gold bars produced to a fineness of 995 or higher in a weight accepted by the bullion markets. All Metalor gold bars we stock meet this standard, being produced from 24 carat gold to a minimum fineness of 999.9. The price you see on our website is the price you pay - there is no additional VAT to add at checkout.

Metalor Gold Bar Sizes and Designs

We stock a wide range of Metalor gold bar weights, from the smallest 1 gram bar up to the 1 kilogram bar, including the popular 1oz and 100g sizes. Metalor produces both cast and minted bars, all manufactured from 24 carat gold to a fineness of 999.9.

Metalor gold bars carry a clean, functional design rather than a decorative one. Each bar is stamped with the Metalor name, an assay mark, the weight and the fineness, alongside a unique serial number. The minted bars are supplied in sealed blister card packaging.

Metalor Gold Bar Serial Numbers

Every new Metalor gold bar is stamped with a unique serial number, which also appears on the accompanying blister card or certificate. The serial number is intended as a record-keeping aid, not a verification tool - a number alone cannot confirm a gold bar is genuine, so we always recommend buying only from reputable bullion dealers that guarantee authenticity. The resale value of a Metalor gold bar is not affected by removing it from its packaging, although bars are easier to sell when the packaging is intact. When selling, the buyer will normally need to remove the bar to test purity using an XRF analysis device. The price you receive is determined by the weight of the bar and the current spot price of gold.
