Isle of Man Angel

The Isle of Man Angel coin, produced by the private Pobjoy Mint - the largest private mint in Europe. Many of these coins were made to match Royal Mint specifications, during years that the Royal Mint was issuing little to no bullion or proof coinage.

The Angel coin was one of the primary designs. Angel coins were first introduced into England by Edward IV in 1465 as a new issue of the Noble coin, also known as the "Angel-Noble". Patterned after the French "Angelot or Ange", which was first issued back in 1340, its name is derived from its representation of the Archangel Michael slaying a dragon.
