An island city-state in Southeast Asia, the Republic of Singapore was originally a crown colony of the British Empire. The twentieth century saw Singapore under the control of several foreign powers before finally becoming independent in 1965.

The Singapore Mint was established in 1968 to produce currency after gaining independence.
