This Gold Proof £5 coin (aka Quintuple Sovereign, or Crown) was issued by the Royal Mint in 2008 to celebrate the 450th anniversary of Elizabeth I becoming Queen of England.
The obverse is Ian Rank-Broadley's portrait of Elizabeth II, the fourth portrait of the current Queen, while the back is a design by goldsmith Rod Kelly. Kelly has produced several pieces for the Royal Mint and his design was heavily influenced by the 'Armada' portrait of Elizabeth I by George Gower in 1588. The curved shapes behind Elizabeth's head are known as 'mandorlas'. The Tudor rose also features prominently, while the edge bears the inscription I HAVE REIGNED WITH YOUR LOVES.
This Gold Proof 2008 Five Pound coin is beautifully presented in a good-quality case, and comes complete with a certificate of authenticity, which discusses the coin and Queen Elizabeth I's reign as monarch. This set was limited to 2,500 sets, although only 1,500 were originally sold.
