Description

The 2012 1oz Proof gold Krugerrand. The coin is supplied in an attractive box, complete with certificate of authenticity from the South African Mint. Limited to 1500 coins.

The obverse (front) of the coin depicts former South African president Paul Kruger.

The gold Krugerrand is a 22 carat gold coin. It contains 1oz of pure gold, but the coins actually weigh slightly heavier. A troy ounce is 31.10g and gold Krugerrands are 33.92g weight. This is heavier than most one ounce gold coins because it also features a fractional amount of copper to give it a distinct colour, and as such it’s slightly thicker than most 1oz coins which are 24 carat.

These coins are still classed as legal tender by the South African government and are issued by the South African Reserve Bank. They are struck to Proof quality by using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks for the striking process.
