Description

The 1980 gold Proof Sovereign coin from The Royal Mint. This coin weighs the same as a regular sovereign, at 7.98 grams and 22-carat gold (91.67% fineness).

This proof coin has been struck using specially selected blanks and highly polished dies. During striking, the coinage dies exert enormous pressure on the coin blank, with at least two separate blows (or strikes), ensuring that the impression has extra clarity. Complete with its own booklet, and bound in a good-looking green leather case.
