A Costa Rican 1500 Colones gold coin. This coin was issued in 1974 only. Fewer than 2,500 bullion coins were minted and fewer than 1000 proof editions issued.
The 1500 Colones coin was minted to .900 fineness and weighs 33.437 grams. It features the Costa Rican coat of arms on the obverse and a Giant Anteater on the reverse. Text reads REPUBLICA DE COSTA RICA B.C. 1974 C.R. and AMERICA CENTRAL 1500 COLONES.
This coin was produced by the Royal Mint in conjunction with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCNNR). The coin collection was released between 1974 and 1975.
