A gold 8 Escudos coin of King Charles IV of Spain, dated 1800. This coin is likely Spanish treasure, probably from the ships of the King of Spain. Struck in Santiago Chile. Spain had colonised much of the New World, and minted coinage in gold and silver in her many colonies. These gold coins were called escudos, silver coins were called Reales. Nicknames were given to these coins; Escudos were known as 'doubloons' and 8 Reales coins were called 'pieces of eight'.
Obverse
Armored Bust of Charles IV.
Reverse
Crowned Coats of Arms.
Graded to AU53 (GVF). Slight wear on more than 50% of the design. Full details except for very minor softness on the high points.
The picture is taken of a coin of the stated grade. You may not receive the exact coin pictured but it will be a coin of the same grade and will be graded and slabbed by the same numismatic grading service.
